What is Random Acts of Kindness?
Today (Sun 17th Feb) is Random Acts of Kindness Day – yes there are so many days now that are attributed to one thing or another, but this is one that stands out for us and we will tell you why!
Valentine’s Day may be the day to celebrate love but Random Acts of Kindness Day (RAK Day for short) is about sharing the love and the feel good factor that you get by doing something for someone else.
It is also an opportunity to go outside of your comfort zone which is something that fits closely with the ethos behind Penelope Hope. If you have a look at the website ‘Randomactsofkindness.org’ they talk about this in more detail and they also list dozens of ways that you can get behind this event, many of which you may not have thought of! Check out some of their suggestions...
it isn’t all about buying a stranger a cup of coffee.
RAK Day can be a chance to reconnect with loved ones, be kind to the environment or simply do something for yourself! We all deserve a pat on the back and we probably don’t do that often enough. We also love the fact that many kind acts can be done for free. As someone wise once said “Kindness is the gift that everyone can afford to give”.
Everyone is busy on a day-to-day basis and RAK Day is simply reminding us to take a moment to consider the people around us and the positive impact that we can have on the world by making a kind gesture.
So we encourage you to have a think about something that you could do. We would love to hear about the different random acts of kindness that you get up to. One small act of kindness can have a ripple effect and result in many acts of kindness.
“Kindness is the gift that everyone can afford to give”.by someone wise!
The PH RAK competition
Do you know someone who always puts others needs before their own? Bending over backwards for others and expected nothing in return?
Maybe you have a friend that has had a hard time and really needs a lift...
We would love to hear from you if you have someone who you would like to nominate for a Penelope Hope room makeover.
We are looking for a person/ family who deserve something special and would like us to spruce up their living room or bedroom.
We believe in the power of colour to uplift and create a positive and happy vibe that will make you smile every time you enter the room. Sometimes it is hard to know where to start when you want to refresh your home and Nadia can offer her advice to help clear up the clutter and help you to be more confident and make bolder decisions with your home décor.
The prize includes a home visit from Penelope Hope Creative Director Nadia Newton who will give styling advice on how to update & refresh the room in question using soft furnishings and colour.
In collaboration with the winner Nadia will select pieces (such as cushions, lampshades & fabric ) from Penelope Hope up to the retail value of £350.
How to Enter
Entry is either on Facebook (see our pinned post) or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. You need to clearly state why the person you are nominating deserves to win. You do not need to publicly tag them in the Facebook post but please do get their permission (or a parents permission) first before nominating them especially if you are putting any sensitive/ private information online.
Give us as much detail as you like about your nominee and also include your contact details for us to get hold of you if your nominee ends up winning. Good Luck!
Anyone living in Guernsey can be nominated... children, Mum's, Grandma's, neighbours, friends, carers etc... whoever you feel really deserves it.
The closing date for the competition is Thurs 28th Feb 2019 at Midnight.
The deserving winner will be picked by Nadia & the PH team on Fri 1st March and announced shortly afterwards.
