How to care for your Penelope Hope indoor upholstery fabric

Natural fabrics such as silks and cotton can fade in sunlight so we advise against placing them in direct sunlight. Upholstered furniture should not be exposed to direct sunlight for long periods or colour fading will occur. Do not allow animals on your furniture, they can cause more damage to your upholstery and soft furnishings in a short time than years of normal use!

Regular cleaning is recommended to keep your upholstered furniture looking good. Fixed covers should be brushed frequently with an upholstery brush or gently vacuumed.

How to clean our Indoor fabrics & cushion covers

Once our fabric has been turned into curtains, blinds and cushions we advise against machine washing as it can cause shrinkage that could affect the drape of your curtains and the fit of your cushion covers. Therefore machine wash at your own risk!

We also do not advise dry cleaning (and therefore will not take responsibility if they are damaged in the process.)

We recommend that our indoor upholstered furniture, fabrics and cushions are to be spot cleaned only. Use a damp white cloth with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, taking care not to over rub the area. Blot to remove any excess water. Dry laying flat. Iron on a medium heat.

Be aware that exposure to direct sunlight will result in fading. Turning cushions regularly will extend their life by spreading the wear and exposure more evenly

Caring for your feather cushion pads

Caring for your feather cushion pads

Feather cushion inserts can flatten over time and with general use, therefore they need to be plumped regularly. This is easy enough to do. Unzip the cushion cover and slide your hand inside and ensure all the corners are nicely filled with the feather pad. Hold two corners and give the cushion a big shake and then squidge it around a bit until you feel it has regained a more plump and full appearance. Don’t forget to zip it back up carefully!

Although our outdoor fabric is water repellent, extremely durable and has excellent colour fastness to light we advise you to not leave it outside permanently but to store it away in a shed, garage or storage container out of the elements to help prolong its life and avoid the inner pads from getting waterlogged which can result in mildew and rot forming.

Our Outdoor fabric can be easily spot cleaned with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, taking care not to rub the area excessively. Blot to remove any excess water and dry laying flat. We advise that these are not to be ironed.

Our Outdoor cushions and seat pads can be cleaned in much the same way.

Caring for your Penelope Hope metallic cotton fabrics and cushion covers

Our Metallic screenprinted fabrics are 100% cotton and can therefore fade in sunlight so we advise against placing them in direct sunlight or moving them regularly to reduce the fading.

These should only be spot cleaned with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, taking care not to rub the area. Blot to remove any excess water and dry laying flat. Do not leave to dry in direct sunlight, as the fabric will be susceptible to fading. We advise that these are not to be ironed. If you really must iron them, please either do so on the reverse or cover the fabric with a sheet or towel and use a low dry iron. (NO steam!)

Caring for your Penelope Hope Accessories

Caring for your Penelope Hope wash bags & pouches.

Our cotton range of wash bags, make up bags and pouches in the first instance should be spot cleaned with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, taking care not to rub the area excessively. Blot to remove any excess water and dry laying flat. If you have persistent stains you can try machine washing on a 30-degree wash cycle but you will need to remove the tassel prior to washing.

A cool iron setting can help remove any wrinkles or creases that occur.

Our water resistant (polyester) wash bags and makeup bags can be cleaned in the same way as the cotton range but DO NOT iron the fabric.
