Caring for your Penelope Hope fabrics & cushions
We obviously want to make sure your Penelope Hope fabrics and cushions look their very best in your home and give you years of enjoyment and comfort. Below are some suggestions and advice on how to care for and clean your Penelope Hope fabrics, upholstery & cushions.
Natural fabrics such as silks and cottons can fade in sunlight so we advise against placing them in direct sunlight. Turning cushions regularly will extend their life by spreading the wear and exposure more evenly.
Caring for your Upholstery
Upholstered furniture should not be exposed to direct sunlight for long periods or colour fading will occur. Do not allow animals on your furniture, they can cause more damage to your upholstery and soft furnishings in a short time than years of normal use!
Regular cleaning is recommended to keep your upholstered furniture looking good. Fixed covers should be brushed frequently with an upholstery brush or gently vacuumed.
Feather cushion inserts
Feather cushion inserts can flatten over time and with general use, therefore they need to be plumped regularly. This is easy enough to do. Unzip the cushion cover and slide your hand inside and ensure all the corners are nicely filled with the feather pad. Hold two corners and give the cushion a big shake and then squidge it around a bit until you feel it has regained a more plump and full appearance. Don’t forget to zip it back up carefully!
Once fabric has been turned into curtains, blinds and cushions we advise against machine washing as it can cause shrinkage that could affect the drape of your curtains and the fit of your cushion covers. Therefore machine wash at your own risk!
We also do not advise dry cleaning (and therefore will not take responsibility if they are damaged in the process.)
Cotton fabrics and cushion covers
We recommend that our upholstered furniture, fabrics and cushions are to be spot cleaned only. Use a damp white cloth with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, taking care not to over rub the area. Blot to remove any excess water. Dry laying flat. Iron on a medium heat.
Metallic foil fabrics and cushion covers
These should only be spot cleaned with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, taking care not to rub the area. Blot to remove any excess water and dry laying flat. Do not leave to dry in direct sunlight, as the fabric will be susceptible to fading. We advise that these are not to be ironed. If you really must iron them, please either do so on the reverse or cover the fabric with a sheet or towel and use a low dry iron. (NO steam!)
We fully appreciate that spillages and stains happen so if you find yourself with one on a Penelope Hope fabric or product and need some further advice on how to tackle it please don't hesitate to call the Studio on +44 (0) 1481 721410 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
